Read-a-thon

I will be participating in Dewey's annual read-a-thon which is being held twice a year, one in April and one in October. Coincidentally it's John Lennon's 70th birthday today (wherever you are John, may your light and love shine upon us!) and Sean Lennon's birthday (yup his son and a musician too). Actually am kinda anxious now and quite nervous.

So to start I will be reading In the Night Kitchen by Maurice Sedak which is a Caldecott Honor book awardee. By the way, this book is one of the banned books because of seeing the child nude and "alleged sexual innuendo" (with reference to blooey's blog http://sumthinblue.com/banned-books-week/#more-6238).

Go start reading and may I request to be silent for a few minutes wishing and imagining peace for John Lennon and for the world.

(Non)traditional Buddhist readathon blessing:

Just as the books fill the shelves,
Pile together on the floor and stack up on the table
So may the joy of the readathon
Flow forth to brighten your day and lift your spirit.
Books already read, books in progress and books yet to be read.

By the power of every word on the page
May your book be delightful,
As scary as Lovecraft’s Cthulhu
Or as sweet as a box of See’s candy.

Let the power of the images evoked by words
Keep you stay awake long through the night
May no obstacle impede
Your day filled with books.

For all of those who are reading today
Who follow in the path of Dewey
May your day be filled with the four blessings
Of fabulous books, tasty snacks, comfy chairs and joy.

I'm looking forward to your comments and reviews of the books you read today. I'm sure I'll have lots of new titles to add to my must-read list! Happy reading. :-)

Blog-mas? Feeling grateful!

Christmas is almost just around the corner and yet you could not see any trace of Christmas decor in my place (lol). I am not being a scroog...
